CKA Junior Inter-area 2012 report

Under 14's Competition

Cambridgeshire under 14’s entered two teams at the junior inter-area held in Norwich, the squad was split into team A and B with team B being drawn into an especially tough group with Norwich and London A as well as the strong Kent B. In the morning team A won their first two games including a tense 1–0 win over Harrow. Team B lost their first two games against Norwich A and London, which was a tough ask to start the tournament.

Then in the final two matches of the morning team B played Kent B and South Midlands who both played a game that was entirely built around running in shots. Team B had started to figure out how to play against such tactics and by the end of the morning were looking better and better out on the pitch. Team A played their key game of the day against London B and a nervous game came down to the final two minutes with London pulling ahead and Cambridgeshire equalising straight away for a draw and the final match of the morning against the eventual winners Kent A was a tough lesson for our less experienced players.

Due to the way the tournament was organised Team A and B were put in the bottom half of the tournament for the afternoon. The performance of Team B against Team A was particularly impressive, team B refused to be intimidated and continued to attack and defend confidently against their own squad. Team A won the bottom pool and finished with a record of 6 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss which was good enough for 6th place. Team B with one of the youngest and certainly smallest teams in their age group impressed several opposition coaches with their effort and potential and they can look forward to an opportunity for great success over the next 2 years at the age level. Team B learntparticularly well over the course of the day how to stop a running-in shot based attack and forced their opponents to play Korfball properly, which was an excellent achievement and one they can all be proud of. Thanks to all the parents, friends and family who came to transport and support the players. Also thank you to the CKA for their support.

Coach - Chris West (Tigers)
