Inter-area 2008 report

Cambridgeshire korfball team won silver at the senior inter-area korfball competition.

The annual event, organised by British Korfball Association, includes representative teams from each korfball region, and national teams from countries such as Scotland and Wales.

The Cambridgeshire representative team, made up of players from local korfball clubs City, Tigers, Phoenix and University, beat East Midlands (5-2), North West (8-7), and South West (6-5) at the Manchester Velodrome to make the semi-finals.

Cambridgeshire met West Midlands in the semis and convincingly dismissed the side 8-3 to secure a place in the final. Angus Davidson scored a hat trick, Alice Kempski added two goals to the tally, and Adam Clarke, Lucy Northfield and Carla Bennett sank one each.

The final pitched the Cambs side against a team made up of the best Great Britain students. Though they fought hard, Cambs went down 2-11 to a side that dominated the post and made scoring difficult.

By finishing second place, and behind the Great Britain students, Cambridgeshire finished as top 'area' in the country - the best result achieved by a Cambridgeshire side.

The Cambridgeshire team was: Adam Clarke (Tigers), Adam Twiss (Phoenix), Angus Davidson (Uni), James Northfield (Phoenix), Nick Armitage (Tigers), Reda Ibn-Tahaikt - coach (Tigers), Alice Kempski (Tigers), Carla Bennett (City), Francis Woolerton (Tigers), Liv Armitage (Tigers), Lucy Northfield (Phoenix), Rachel Camina (City).

Top scorers were Nick Armitage, with five goals and one penalty, and Adam Clarke, sinking one goal and five penalties.
